From January 25 to February 5, 2013 a group of 20 volunteer dentists from McGill University in Montreal Canada and its humanitarian mission "Kindness in Action" will visit the Municipality of Espita to provide free dental care. In coordination with Captain Carlos Correa Erosa mayor, and his wife, Mrs. Lucy Diaz Martinez., president of DIF and Maria C. Be Noh the director of the municipal health department more than 800 patients are expected to be treated during their stay.
The volunteer dentists, hygienists and assistants are coordinated by Dr. Veronique Benhamou, Directorof Dentistry, McGill University, Montreal (Dental Clinic) and provide treatment and preventive care in dental clinics to be set up, to attend to children and adults while in Espita
The main focus is on oral health. The Mayan glyph that means "helping hands" is their logo. Pain relief to a patient is the goal.
The guiding principle for treatment is dental pain relief, this is balanced with prevention, dispensing toothbrushes and individual instruction for proper hygiene. "
