Island Impact was founded in December of 2003 in Sosua, Puerta Plata by Robert and Kelli Nelson

The Dominican Republic, located in the Caribbean, shares the island of Hispaniola with the country of Haiti and is home to more than 10 million people. Originally discovered and governed by Columbus himself, the island has a rich history which includes the establishment of the first Christian Church and University in the New World. Today it is known for it's beautiful beaches and is a tourist attraction for Canada, Europe and the USA.
Unfortunately, if you stray Beyond the Beach you find a country struggling to provide education and health care for it's inhabitants.

Year Round Clinic Staff
Long after the visiting medical team has gone home, patients will continue to come to Island Impact's clinics for assistance with their health care needs. To meet those needs and provide critical follow up, two out-patient clinics have been established on the North Coast. The Island Impact medical staff work tirelessly, often long after the clinic is closed to help the local residents get the care they need. Your donations keep these clinics operating.

Dr. Rafael Ventura is the dentist for IIM. He also supervises foreign dental interns that visit to earn school credit.

Teamwork Makes the Dream Work

Church Groups
This is an incredible opportunity for individuals to stretch their faith by doing something most people will never do: participate in a humanitarian mission. This type of experience binds a group together on a level far deeper than normal interaction, and leaves the participants with a sense of duty and respect to their fellow man, as well as increased satisfaction in their church and spiritual experience. No one will come back quite the way they left, and the impact of their work will last for years in the hearts of those who serve, as well as in the hearts of those who are served.
Medical Teams
We are well organized and have so much experience that you will be able to do what you do best – medically serve your fellow man. You probably went into medicine in order to help those around you. These days, medical professionals have become so concerned with liability issues that they have lost the joy of helping someone in need. Rekindle that love of humanity by serving as part of a medical team to help the very poorest of the poor in third world countries, those who have little or no access to necessary medical care.
School and Youth Teams
The Dominican Republic is a safe place and perfect for taking young people to get the experience of a real mission trip that will change their lives forever. There's projects for them to do from painting to light construction to street drama and helping in a mobile medical clinic.

About Teams:Teamwork Makes the Dream Work

#6 von carlos , 22.01.2012 16:53

We need you to be part of a team or host a team in Haiti or the Dominican Republic. Our teams participate in medical service as well as construction efforts to improve the quality of schools and clinics.

Island Impact Ministries has years of organization experience, but is still small enough that there are a lot of personal touches and interaction with the people you are there to serve.

Unfortunately, many large organizations offer mission teams the experience of visiting a country, but don't offer the hands-on work. experience. Our mission teams will roll up their sleeves and get to work, helping people who no longer have a way of helping themselves.

Please visit our Contact Us page to find a place to help.
