Our Mission -- Dental Care for Children
Global Dental Relief brings free dental care to impoverished children of Nepal, northern India, Vietnam and Guatemala in partnership with local organizations.

Volunteer dentists, hygienists, assistants and non-medical volunteers deliver treatment and preventive care in dental clinics that serve children in schools, orphanages and remote villages.

Travel and logistics for volunteers are coordinated by Global Dental Expeditions, dedicated to humanitarian journeys to serve children in need.

JOB DESCRIPTION -- VOLUNTEER DENTIST

... handles charting, tray management and instrument sterilization. Work days run for 8 to 9 hours.

Field clinics are held at schools and orphanages adopted for long term care by Global Dental Relief. In these clinics, children are fully charted and care is provided to restore primarily permanent teeth. Long term follow-up care is provided on a 1-3 year basis. In remote locations, clinics usually include one day of care to provide relief for adults in pain.

In field situations, equipment and care is necessarily basic. Volunteer Dentists work with portable field units, which allow for restorative care, extractions and management of infections. Portable lights are available, and work is performed using lawn chairs or beds for patients.

Oral hygiene education is emphasized. Each students receives a toothbrush and brushing instruction. This is followed by classroom instruction and teacher supervision of oral hygiene.

Work is demanding due to the nature of the equipment, field working conditions, and the long lines of patients in need of care. Work is also immensely rewarding as patients receive first time dental care that is otherwise physically and financially beyond reach.
