Cap Haitien Dental Institute

Welcome to the CHDI! Many years ago my friend Ken and I began to work in Haiti. Starting with direct care, we then moved on to providing education to the dentists and now, the permanent teaching institute. At the same time we were developing the concept for the institute, we discovered the World Health Organization with its Basic Package of Oral Care and how this design of delivering oral health care in emerging countries is sustainable, appropriate, and affordable to deliver.

Suddenly all the right pieces arrived and fit together. Our efforts of implementing the Atraumatic Restorative Treatment program were very successful. Now all the compoments are assembled and the institute equipment is installed and functioning.

We encourage you to join our efforts, just ‘plug’ yourself into our established program, your experience will be rewording and your work efforts successful. Or if you want to work with your own project in another region of Haiti or another country, it’s important to consult with us first. The CHDI can provide advice, information and guidance in establishing your program.

Thank you for visiting our site, enjoy the reading and we hope to see you in Cap Haitien on our next visit.

Taking Action and Volunteering at Cap Haitien Dental Institute

#3 von carlos , 16.01.2011 16:54

The CHDI is looking for people who are ready to make a difference and change lives. We have several program options available, including mobile clinic teams that travel to area schools, churches, villages and options to treat patients in the newly renovated and equipped clinic at the HUJ.

You may travel with the CHDI for seven days during January, March, July or October. For the adventurous and confident volunteer, arrange for a time to travel on your own schedule, where all the resources of the CHDI would be available for you.

Dental professionals providing both direct care and teaching are needed. Dentists, hygienists, certified assistants can all help. Non health care volunteers can help by learning the ART technique while others can still help by supporting the clinic and delivery of care in Cap Haitien by using the personal skills.
Volunteering

If you wish to travel or find out how to volunteer please call 440.967.6741, or use our contact form. Specific travel dates during the four months will vary according to team leaders schedules. The days are from Saturday to Sunday and detailed itinerary's will vary depending on your city of departure. We expect volunteers to meet in Ft. Lauderdale or Miami on Saturday with the team traveling as a group Sunday to Cap Haitien. You would spend six nights in a Cap Haitien hotel, departing on Saturday to Florida.
