Having arrived in Kathmandu on Friday, April 24th to treat children in the beloved site of GDR’s first clinic in 2001, the volunteer team of 14 were out in the open and unhurt when the area was struck by a massive, 7.9 magnitude earthquake on Saturday. Just as fortunately, although the building sustained structural damage, the children at the Sri Mangal Dvip (SMD) boarding school – GDR’s base of operations in Nepal – were all safe and accounted for as well.
Over the past several days, volunteers have spent time with the indomitable students at the SMD school who are still living in tents. They have also been able to retrieve and organize medical supplies from the GDR clinic site which have been donated to the relief effort.
Our thoughts go out to this intrepid volunteer team as they make their way back home and remain with our dear friends in Nepal as they rebuild their community over the weeks and months to come.
