The “Royal Mobile Dental Project” at the faculty of dentistry, Khon Kaen University was established in 1991 under the Royal Patronage of His Majesty the King. The project was initiated as a part of the government agenda called “Isan Keaw or Green Isan project” to help the people in the northeastern region of Thailand.
The dental services provided by the project include simple extraction, fillings, scaling and pit and fissure sealants. The oral health education is also arranged if possible to encourage the people to have a better care of their oral cavities. The success of the project owes to a number of collaborations from faculty staff, dental assistants, local health officials, volunteered dentists and community. Apart from the dental services, the project aims at promoting the oral health care and the prevention of oral diseases in the future. Epidemiological and action research must be implemented to improve people’s oral health in a sustainable manner.
